In
order to understand and acknowledging about the history, construction and
sustainability of this city, we concentrate on some points, in brief, then we discuss
on the happening and the developing of the city which requires a new study
about its history.
Sulaimani
can be accounted for as a top of the Kurdistan cities breaking the paths from
here and spreads to all Kurdistan cities. For instance, composing the Kurdish
language and grammar in (1909) by (Khalil Khayali) who was founded the Kurdish
alphabet, the Mr. Amin Baldar maintained the notion; the first journal was
published via the educated and loyal people of this city was called (Omedi
Istiqlal), for the first time printing was progressed in Sulaimani in (1920)
and has diffused to Kurdistan, also, a stunning art like music, cinema, drama,
drawing, etc. presented in this city, it has competed with the whole
territories in Iraq.
Moreover,
making policy, civilized activity, groups, political parties, training and
populist syndicate have been established in this city, later transferred to the
rest of Kurdistan cities. Likewise, for the first time university has built-in
Sulaimani in (1968).
Sulaimani
was constructed in the era of Babanese; in (1784) the Baban prince Ibrahim
Pasha has mobilized the capital of Baban from Qallachwalan to Sulaimani.
Because geographically Qallachwalan was close to the Iran border while
Sulaimani (17) kilometers away from that city that’s why Ibrahim Pasha changed
the capital location of Baban. While Ibrahim pasha spent most of his childhood
and youth in Baghdad that might have affected his life to think about the
creation of a wide city like Sulaimani.
Sulaimani
has built to become capital and governing via the Babanese, although it was
impossible in Qallachwalan, the reasons behind creating Sulaimani:
1- Administrative and policy, the Baban
prince wanted to away from Iran for the sake of accomplishing more security,
safe in the new city, constant progress to the city administration and the
Emirate.
2- Geographically, this city had a strategic
location for trading than other places.
3- An appropriate place to expand either for
reconstruction or agriculture, for example, Sharazoor and Bazian Plains.
After
the rule of the Babanese, a Turkish nationality that was named Ismail Pasha
became the dynast of Sulaimani and they established their people in the city.
In order to break the Emirate up, Abdullah Pasha and his brother Ahmed Pasha
were invited to visit Baghdad, as a result, both of them were arrested there
and sent to Istanbul in that way the era of the Babani family ended in (1881).
The
Turkish has ruled Sulaimani directly and constructed a military garrison for
the first time. On the other hand, in the First World War, the Ottomans have
defeated, at that time a security space was seen in the city, Malik Mahmoud
could form an administration, later, in (1920) but the Britons couldn’t let him
manage that Kurdish administrative or announce a Kurdish state, they captured
him and sent to the south of Iraq, finally, in (1925) Sulaimani became an Iraqi
city officially.
